Security and Screening at Ben Gurion Airport

One of the Most Secure Airports in the World

Ben Gurion Airport is considered one of the most secure airports in the world. Its multi-layered security system serves as a model for many airports around the globe.

The Security Screening Process

The security screening at Ben Gurion begins before you even enter the check-in hall. Trained security selectors interview passengers and check documents. After that, luggage goes through an X-ray scan before reaching the check-in counters.

In the next stage, carry-on bags undergo an additional scan and passengers pass through a magnetometer (metal detector). Finally, passport control takes place before entering the transit area.

Additional Security Measures

Beyond passenger screening, Ben Gurion Airport operates a comprehensive security system that includes several additional layers of protection.

  • Armed guards at all airport entrances
  • CCTV security cameras throughout the terminals
  • Security patrols in both uniform and plainclothes
